Biotin is a vitamin that’s used to help convert certain nutrients into energy, making it key for growth within your body. The National Academy of Medicine recommends most adults take 30 micrograms each day and up to 35 micrograms for breastfeeding women. Without biotin, there’s strong evidence to support that a deficiency will cause hair loss. Products including biotin help create amino acids that produce a form of keratin (which our hair is mostly comprised of), which helps maintain hair health and improved strength.
Find biotin naturally in nutritional yeast, liver, cauliflower, salmon, bananas, carrots, cooked egg yolks, sardines, nuts, legumes, and mushrooms. For more rapid results, you can find it in high-quality supplements. Deficiency can occur in people who drink alcohol excessively or consume raw egg whites frequently. For those with a genetic disorder of biotin deficiency (such as biotinidase deficiency), renal dialysis, certain drugs and smoking may also increase your need for biotin.
Avoiding premature hair loss will require conscious efforts! You also need to pay a lot of attention to the things you are putting on your hair and in your body to ensure that the hair growth is healthy and strong. Ensuring that your hair is getting all the nourishment it needs is crucial.
